SES Student Council

All students are welcomed and encouraged to join the SES Student Council.  There is no election process for becoming a member, you can simply show up at the meetings and lend your voice to the conversation during our lunch meetings, 2-3 times per month in the Blue Lab. At SES, student council members develop, promote and run fun events for students including: a talent show, student assembly, game night, dances and spirit weeks.  Student council also purchases/sells a variety of SES merchandise items as a fundraising tool.

As a member of the SES Student Council there are also leadership opportunities. Juniors can run for the position of co-presidents, co-communications coordinator and co-treasurer. The position is a 2-year term and each co-partner is the senior who held the the role the previous year. This provides an opportunity for mentoring and encourages engagement in Student Council across all 4 houses. This leadership team commits to coordinating and attending all meetings and all student council sponsored events throughout the school year.

Evening Events

Halloween Dance*

This dance is held in late October. Students are encouraged to wear costumes and prizes are given in a variety of categories. The cost for this dance is $5 and includes free snacks and a fun night of dancing and playing games--we have both foosball and a ping pong table.

Recycled Formal*

This dance is held in early March. Students wear formal wear that is reused, recycled, up-cycled, or homemade. The idea is to have a semi-formal dance, without all the traditional costs.  The cost for this dance is $5 and includes free snacks and a fun night of dancing and playing games--we have both foosball and a ping pong table.

Game Night

This event is held in early May. Students are invited to SES for an evening out outdoor games, raffle prizes, and a free picnic dinner. All current students and students who will be starting at SES in the fall are invited to attend this FREE event. It is a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the school year and to meet the new members of our SES community.

* Non-SES students can attend these events as the guest of a current SES student, provided they are enrolled in high school and complete the "Guest Registration Form" in advance of the event.

Fall Talent Show and Winter Assembly

Every December, student council organizes a talent show as an opportunity for SES students to perform and share their talents with the SES community.  The SES student body has a wide-range of amazing talents and we have seen ballet performances, karate forms, handstand routines, comedy acts, instrument playing, singing, and full student bands. Every year is a little different, and a lot of fun! This event is FREE and takes place after school 2:30-4:30. The audience members vote on their favorite performances and prizes are awarded to the three acts that receive the most votes.

The last day of school, before winter break, always has a school-wide student assembly, coordinated and hosted by the SES student council. The assembly showcases the top performances from the talent show, interspersed with the promotion of upcoming events and fundraising results from a variety of student organizations and current initiatives.
