Hello SES Community,

Thanks so much for your patience as we continue to plan for the 20-21 school year. It has been a wild ride as we expand our educational expertise to include a public health lens as well. Despite the uncertainty, we continue to be unwavering in the unique beliefs that make SES the amazing educational opportunity it is:

We believe that our work is vital and relevant because:

  • an inquiry-based interdisciplinary learning environment deepens understanding

  • active, experiential learning is fundamental

  • effective communities value collaboration, flexibility  and respect

  • leadership is fostered by opportunities to lead, follow, question, plan and act

  • connections with nature are powerful and encourage responsible choices and actions

  • understanding environmental systems and their interrelationships is essential

  • every student deserves academic challenge

  • educational opportunities are shaped by the needs and interests of our students

  • embracing diversity strengthens our ability to create compassionate global citizens

Whether we are in hybrid, distance learning, or all together, we are a community and we can’t wait to get the 2020-21 school year started so that we can learn and grow together!

This email contains information, and a lot of it!  Please reach out with questions and know that the information is subject to change.  We wanted to make as much information available to you as we learn it so you can plan and prepare for the fall as best as possible.

Be well,

Lauren Trainer, Principal

SES-Specific Information for the 2020-21 School Year

We have created a document that contains details specifically relevant to the SES learning community. We will continue to update this document between now and the official start of school for students on Monday, September 14. Please keep in mind that these details are fluid and will likely change, but our goal is to keep this document as up-to-date as possible. SES Back to School Info - August 2020

Additionally, we plan to send weekly communications to keep everyone updated on any changes or new details relevant to the start of the school year. Please watch for these emails and feel free to reach out with any questions.

For your reference:  Updates on Restart 2020 sent from District 196 on August 13

District 196 families,

We know how critical it is to have detailed information as you decide what is best for your child's education. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the complexities of planning for both distance learning and hybrid learning models. Please refer to our Restart 2020 website for the latest information and news, as well as a frequently asked questions section, which is updated regularly as we continue answering submitted questions.

196 Digital Academy

Reminder, the 196 Digital Academy is a full-time distance learning option for families who do not want their children in school. Families must register for the 196 Digital Academy option by the deadline this Friday, August 14 at 11:59 p.m., for the district to move forward with staffing. Click here for more information and to register for the 196 Digital Academy. After clicking submit when registering, you will see a confirmation message in the survey system and should receive an email receipt of responses. If you do not receive the email, check your spam filter for Qualtrics or noreply@qemailserver.com.

Cohort Assignments for Hybrid Model

Families choosing the base hybrid learning model do not need to sign up. The cohorts are divided by last name so children from the same family attend school in person on the same days. The goal is to have approximately the same number of students in each cohort. Children with different last names living in the same household will be able to be in the same cohort. Students receiving center-based special education services may be assigned to a different cohort. Schools will work with families to consider requests based on need, space and balance between cohorts.

  • Cohort A (last names beginning with letters A through K) will be in school Mondays and Thursdays, and distance learning all other school days.

  • Cohort B (last names beginning with letters L through Z) will be in school Tuesdays and Fridays, and distance learning all other school days.

View sample schedules for both learning models.

Please bookmark our Restart 2020 website and check back frequently as it is updated often.
