Weekly Wednesday Update May 20

SES Families,

We have three weeks to go (seniors- only two!!). We are in the home stretch and we are so grateful everyone continues to hang in there! Over the last two months we have learned to appreciate our SES community and the opportunities it provides. We continue to be a thoughtful community of leaders engaging with others to create a sustainable world.

As we prepare to wrap up the year, there will be many communication emails sent your way.  I am sorry to fill your inbox, but details will be important as we communicate about graduation and getting/returning materials, etc.  Some information has already gone out regarding graduation and the dates/process for Seniors to return/pick up items from SES on June 1st, 2nd, 3rd.  Juniors will have a similar opportunity on June 9th, 10th.  More information will be communicated about this process for Juniors next week.

Please continue to encourage your child to persist through the end of the trimester. We are always here if you have questions or need anything.

Be well,

Lauren Trainer

We have some exciting news to share... The SES Wind Turbine is back!!

Last week a new wind turbine, to replace the one we lost in the fall of 2017, was installed by Kettle View Renewable Energy. Students and staff will be able to monitor the power the turbine generates and we have plans to use that information in a variety of classes, as well as to continue to maintain our LEED certification status.

The owner of the company, Randy Faller, had planned to present to our students sharing the science, technology and green occupation options connected to wind turbine energy during the installation week. And, though this component of the installation will need to be postponed, we were able to capture much of the physical installation via photo and video, thanks to Mr. Rylander! (Be sure to check out the SES social media accounts!) The crew also let Mr. Rylander join in their tradition of signing the nose cone of each turbine they install.  Mr. Rylander took the opportunity to dedicate the turbine to the class of 2020!

Senior Party Committee Update: Celebrating our SES 2020 Grads!

The parent committee for the SES senior graduation party has developed a new plan to celebrate our 2020 graduates.  Hosting the traditional all night graduation party is not an option due to COVID-19,  but we think it's important to still recognize our graduates with something special to commemorate this rite of passage.  We plan to provide each graduate with a gift bag of SES themed gifts and other treasures.  COVID-19 has also impacted the committee's ability to meet fundraising goals.  We have kicked off a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to raise at least an additional $12,000.  This would allow us to spend $100 on each student's gift bag.  If we exceed our goal, additional funds will be used to enhance gift bag treasures and SES graduation celebrations.    Please consider making a donation to help us celebrate our 2020 SES graduates.  We are relying on your tax deductible donations to make this happen.  Any amount is appreciated.

GoFundMe campaigns are most successful when shared on social media platforms.  Please share this on your social media accounts, as every bit helps.  Thank you for your generosity!

SES Yearbook

You can still get a 2019-20 SES yearbook!  There are a limited number of copies available, payment must be made in advance of distribution through the FeePay system (orders are no longer being accepted through Josten's website).  The cost for a yearbook is $50, with a reduced price available for students that qualify for free/reduced lunch.

Distribution of yearbooks will take place the last week of school when students will be given a 10 minute time slot to come to the SES building to return items, pay fees and clean out their desks.  (Please watch for a separate email with details next week.) You must make your payment in advance of your scheduled appointment time, NO in-person payments will be accepted.

Meal Pick-ups for Memorial Day Weekend

Because of the Memorial Day Holiday there will be no meals distributed on Monday, May 25, 2020. Daily meals will resume on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Park Elementary, Dakota Ridge School, Echo Park Elementary, Oak Ridge Elementary and Thomas Lake Elementary. The 5-day meal kits will shift one day to Tuesday. Distribution of the 5-day meal kits will remain at the same time and locations.
