Why SES?

This school seems interesting and I wanted a new learning experience. I also wanted to meet new people.

What has been the most impactful learning experience?

The field trips and some of the books we read in House class, like Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. These activities gave me a new learning perspective and it felt like a better learning experience than the one I would have had at a traditional high school.

What are some projects that you worked on at SES?

In Green Literacy I helped with the water bill collection as part of the LEED certification program for our building. I also helped write scripts for the Oak Ridge Elementary students to educate them on the importance of waste management. As part of the fall pond study project, I helped write a paper on the conditions of the pond and the environmental effects humans have had on it.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Efficiently doing something that saves more resources than it takes away.

How do you practice sustainability?

I try to minimize the garbage I create and I try not to buy anything that I don't need. I also support sustainable energy like solar and wind power.
